Farming practices
Farms with well-managed, healthy poultry do more than produce wholesome eggs and meat—they also help minimize the environmental impact of the business and help diminish avian diseases. Cargill works with producers and feed manufacturers to help ensure that farming practices are as wholesome as the meat and eggs that are produced.
Accurate formulations
The right feed formulation not only delivers excellent nutrition, it also helps to reduce waste. Our deep understanding of poultry metabolism and nutrient formulation can help producers lessen the environmental impact of their operations. For example, by accurately formulating feeds with the correct amino acids, nitrogen can be reduced in the waste stream. And creating feeds with just the right amount of nutrients means that the nutrients are used by the poultry rather than excreted.
Management techniques
Our consultants and research scientists work together to develop poultry management techniques and tools that help provide optimum environments for good health and productivity. For example, our Environmental Appraisal System® program helps producers make sure their poultry housing systems provide an optimum environment. Our proprietary MycotoxinBMP® tool helps reduce the devastating effects of mycotoxins in poultry flocks. And our Biosecurity Program helps producers identify, manage and prevent poultry diseases.
Helping customers succeed through rural development
Teaching farm management to Chinese farmers
More than 2.4 million Chinese farmers have participated in our free productivity-enhancing programs on animal nutrition, sanitation, genetics and farm management. Cargill will expand this program to 40 locations in China, allowing for an additional 700,000 farmers to be trained on modern animal nutrition and planting technologies by 2015. The program helped Cargill win the 2008 global award for corporate responsibility from the U.S. State Department.
