Native starch is a classic tablet disintegrant. Tablets containing regular maize starch easily allow water to penetrate into the tablet, hereby softening the tablet, resulting in fast disintegration.

Because of its excellent rapid swelling properties based on its water absorbing functionality, alginic acid is used as rapid release and provides effective tablet disintegration.
