Advancing sustainability best practices across the industry
Cargill works with many stakeholders across our supply chain to improve the sustainability of corn production.
Industry partners
- Field to Market®: Cargill is a founding member of Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, a diverse, multi-stakeholder coalition of grower organizations; agribusinesses; food, fiber, restaurant and retail companies; conservation groups; universities; and public sector partners, that focuses on defining, measuring and advancing the sustainability of food, fiber and fuel production in the United States. Cargill is actively tracking farm-level sustainability with growers using Field to Market’s Fieldprint® Platform. Learn more on the Environmental Impact and Supporting Farmers pages.
- Sustainable Agriculture Initiative: Cargill is an active member of the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform, a global food industry initiative that promotes sustainable agriculture among stakeholders across the food value chain. SAI Platform has defined principles and practices around four main pillars: sustainable farming systems, economy, social and environment. Through collaboration with Field to Market and SAI Platform, data gathered by U.S. farmers using the Fieldprint® Platform can be used to fulfill the requirements of SAI Platform’s Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA), helping to streamline agricultural supply chain data collection and assessment efforts. Through this equivalency agreement, more U.S. farmers are able to meet SAI Platform’s FSA requirements.
- Corn Refiners Association: We collaborate with others in the corn milling industry to share sustainability best practices.
Customers
We support our customers’ efforts to improve transparency and meet consumer demands for more information about how raw materials are sourced and processed. We help customers meet reporting requirements to fulfill their sustainability commitments. Cargill is a member of the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX), which allows our customers access to detailed assessments of our facilities and audit reports under the SEDEX SMETA4-Pillar audit protocol.
We work with customers who want to advance sustainable agriculture in their supply chains. There is no single sustainability definition that fits all geographies, products and supply chains. Benchmarking and gap assessments help define themes that are meaningful to both farmer producers and customers. We have partnered with customers to develop unique sustainability programs for corn in the U.S. and Europe. In France and Hungary we work closely with farmers and cooperatives to implement dedicated programs focused on water quality, biodiversity, nutrient management and soil management.
Certification
To help meet customer requirements, we work to ensure compliance with public and private sustainability certification programs. For example, we have achieved ISCC and ISCC Plus certification for our ethanol production, ethanol trading and lactic acid production.
