Tools to help control costs
A focus on efficiency is critical in today’s dairy business. By understanding nutrients and their metabolism by dairy cattle, you can create a solid operating plan that helps optimize milk production, efficiency and profitability. Our disciplined, scientific approach and strong customer focus have led us to develop tools that can help you manage costs through ingredient evaluation, diet analysis, and whole-farm economics.
Set buy prices from nutrient values
One way to determine the dollar value of an ingredient is to measure its nutrient content. This has real-world applications—for instance, if you have wondered if an ingredient was no longer a value for your diets after a price increase or have set out to determine the top price you should be willing to pay for a hay, you have used nutrient content to determine dollar value.
Our consultants can help you gain a clearer picture of ingredient value with a tool called Parametrics, part of our proprietary MAX® system. With Parametrics, you can gain insight into ingredient buy prices and usage for the specific diets in your operation. Parametrics are numbers produced during formulation and describe what would happen to ingredient inclusion in a diet if its price changed.
This information can be used to understand the value of different ingredients in the diet and plan for changes in the amount you will use if market prices change. You can also use the information to evaluate alternative ingredients and determine any cost savings in your diets.
Analyze diets with “What-If” scenarios
You can take advantage of a unique process to design, compare and evaluate multiple diet scenarios. Our “What-If” analysis available in the MAX® system helps identify opportunities to create value through decreased input costs and/or increased productivity.
Most ration formulation systems allow nutritionists to work on just one diet at a time. We offer more flexibility and control by creating a system to easily compare alternatives to your base diet and make better business decisions for your operation.
Get detailed diet and whole farm economics reports
Our consultants are adept at integrating our deep understanding of nutrients with key economic data to produce detailed diet and whole farm economics evaluations. This service focuses on five areas: diet ingredients, diet nutrients, animal production, period summary, and productivity analysis.
Using our proprietary MAX® system, you can get reports that provide key production and economic information on each diet. This analysis provides an easy view of parameters such as diets, feed efficiency, animal productivity, and income over feed costs at both the diet and whole farm level. It is flexible enough to offer reports that group cows into heifers, dry cows and lactating cows.
