In the spirit industry Cargill’s neutral grain and potable alcohol is used by many European spirits producers in their leading brands, including vodkas, gins, jenevers, liquors, pastis and cream liquors. A lot of distillers and bottlers place their trust in Cargill’s alcohol because of its excellent and constant taste and odor. In close cooperation with every customer, Cargill selects the optimal grade for each brand.

Ensuring a consistent and high quality product

Our highly trained laboratory technicians work to ensure consistent quality and are supported by a large, dedicated, experienced and very professional panel of ‘noses’ who test the various grades of alcohol against strict requirements. Having organoleptic panels at our different production facilities gives us the opportunity to adapt to local sensoric wishes and standards. By partnering with our customers we provide them the best ethanol meeting their requirements, enhancing their products and ensuring the most stable quality.

Reliable Supply Chain

We manage and oversee the entire production process. Our ethanol production facilities located nearby our customers in north Europe are built with the newest technologies, providing stability and reliability. The ethanol produced in these plants is identical and therefore interchangeable, ensuring security of supply and shortest possible transport and communication lines.

Excise
Alcohol is subject to excise duty. National authorities consequently stringently control all shipments of alcohol. The excise rates in the EU vary among the different member states and can amount to as much as 40 times the sales price. It is therefore imperative to adhere to the regulations in the EU member states in which we operate. Our alcohol can be delivered pure, without any additional products. In this case, consignees must have a license from their national authorities to receive ethyl alcohol under suspension of duty. Denatured alcohol can be exempt of duty, provided the national authorities accept the added product as a denaturant. We reiterate that the different EU member states each have their own policy regarding accepting these products. It depends on the national legislation if a specific license is necessary and under which conditions a consignee may receive the alcohol.

For more information please review the general European regulations regarding excise and check with your local excise authorities.
