Supporting the development and promotion of sustainable soy

Cargill is supporting a number of sector-wide initiatives, as well as our own efforts, to encourage sustainable soy production.

As a member of The Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS), we are working with other key global organizations to implement criteria for a responsible and sustainable approach to soy production globally. The RTRS is an international, multi-stakeholder forum with representatives from industry, financial sectors and non-governmental organizations. It is focused on implementing principles and criteria to promote economic, social and environmentally sustainable soy production, processing and trading.

Through our membership of ABIOVE (Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries) we are supporting the Soja Plus Program, which aims to introduce an independently audited, certification scheme for soybean producers in Brazil. The Program will ensure compliance with Brazil’s environmental and social legislation to protect biodiversity and the rights of workers. Additionally, it will encourage more social responsibility, environmental sustainability and better agricultural practices within soy production. Producers participating in the Program, who meet the necessary requirements, will receive Soja Plus Certification.
