The Demand for Bulk Sea Salt Continues to Rise

According to recent research, the 59% of consumers perceive sea salt to be "good for you."

As more and more food manufacturers are formulating products with ingredients perceived as better for you, the demand for bulk sea salt continues to rise.1

According to recent research, 59% of consumers in the United States perceive sea salt to be “good for you” when compared to standard granulated salt. Europe and the Middle East deliver similar findings, with 52% of consumers perceiving sea salt to be  “good for you”.2 Since health perceptions and purchase impact are very strongly correlated, it’s no wonder that new products launched with sea salt have increased annually over the last five years. In total, this increase accounts for nearly 60,000 new products with sea salt entering the market since 2014.1

At Cargill, our modern, bulk sea salt production is very similar to older methods of production. Our sea salt is made through solar evaporation, which captures sea water in shallow ponds, where it then evaporates as it makes its way through these interlocking ponds over the course of about five years. As a leading sea salt supplier to the food processing industry, we offer one of the broadest lines of sea salt products available. Whether it’s bulk sea salt or bagged sea salt – with or without additives – we have the tools, resources, and expertise needed so we can help food manufacturers succeed with sea salt.
