CoroWise® Plant Sterols
Cargill manufactures and markets a line of plant sterols under the brand name CoroWise®. Clinically shown to lower cholesterol, plant sterols are backed by an FDA health claim and are recommended by the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
Plant sterols are substances that occur in small amounts in plant-based foods. Since they have powerful cholesterol-lowering properties, manufacturers have started adding plant sterols to foods to address consumer demands.
Cargill’s CoroWise® plant sterols are now an ingredient in a growing number of foods, beverages, and supplements.
- Our plant sterols are derived from plant sources and are formulated for use in food, beverages, and dietary supplements.
- A FDA health claim may be available when a food contains at least 0.5g per serving of phytosterols (plant sterols) and is eaten with meals or snacks for a daily total intake of 2 grams of phytosterols (plant sterols) and is part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.
