Cargill recently unveiled a new category of “health technologies”, which optimize animal health by working with the biology of the animal. This allows producers to customize an animal’s care program to meet its individual needs. Small changes can have a major impact – creating a safer, more wholesome and sustainable food supply for consumers across the globe.

Solutions for Animal Health and Well-Being

Animal health and well-being can be improved, and maximized, in a variety of different ways. Increasing animal health while maximizing protein production is an achievable goal; one Cargill is helping the industry achieve.

Phytogenics

Phytogenic feed additives are a new category of products in the animal production industry. Defined as plant-based feed additives or botanicals, phytogenics represent a group of natural substances used in animal nutrition and production. These substances are derived from herbs, spices, other plants and their extracts, such as essential oils. They are a direct response to consumer demands for more naturally-produced animals, which requires natural feed inputs.

The term “phytogenic” was coined nearly three decades ago by Delacon, which recognized the potential of plants to meet challenges in animal nutrition. In 2017, Cargill entered into a strategic partnership with Delacon to advance the market scale and global presence of these natural additives.

Additives

Feed additives and functional feed play an important role in animal nutrition. While this category of products isn’t new, continued advancements have modernized what’s commonly referred to as feed additives. These products help producers seek new, sustainable ways to enhance performance. Cargill’s line of Promote® additives, for example, can help:

  • Enhance performance
  • Improve gut health
  • Optimize feed conversion (help an animal produce more with less feed inputs)
  • Reduce or replace the need for antibiotic growth promoters in feed – ultimately addressing consumer demands.

Functional Metabolites
