FR3 fluid delivers a significantly higher saturation limit than mineral oil, which, when combined with the “self-drying” effect driven by hydrolysis, results in stronger dielectric performance and greater long-term reliability for BESS transformers.

Increased load

The high temperature insulation capability of non-free-breathing transformers filled with FR3 fluid enables the flexibility to increase load capacity up to 20% (compared to mineral oil) to optimize transformer performance. When pairing FR3 fluid with thermally upgraded Kraft (TUK paper), or when using a transformer designed specifically for FR3 fluid, load capacity can be increased even further.

Reduced CAPEX

FR3 fluid is a K-class, FM approved fire-resistant fluid. For most installations, FM recognizes FR3 fluid as a safeguard equivalent to space separation, fire barriers, and fire suppression systems based on hot-metal and large-scale arc ignition testing.

Thus, using FR3 fluid can allow reduced clearance requirements, potentially eliminate costly fire-mitigation systems, and could reduce insurance premiums and liability exposure – reducing overall CAPEX.
