Validation

Tested and proven. Millions of times and counting.

For more than 20 years, and in millions of installations around the globe—from the remote fjord region of Norway, to São Paulo’s crowded neighborhoods, to the bustling streets of Dubai, Mumbai, and Lima—FR3® fluid has helped transformers operate longer, and more efficiently, flexibly, safely, and reliably. Is there any doubt that FR3 is better than mineral dielectric oil? There shouldn’t be.

You won’t need magic with FR3 fluid

The wildly popular amusement parks in Florida aren’t just the most magical places on earth. They’re also really humid much of the year. And moisture can be the number-one enemy of a transformer’s solid insulation—when the transformer is filled with mineral oil. That’s because of mineral oil’s relatively poor moisture tolerance. When free water burdens a mineral oil system, it can accelerate paper aging in a destructive cycle and generate corrosive sludge.

We’ve known this won’t happen with FR3 dielectric oil. But now we have even more proof—from this very same Florida get-away destination. When we tested a one-liter sample from an FR3-fliud-filled transformer that had been in continuous service (with zero failures) since its filling in 1997, the fluid was in pristine condition: nearly like new.1 It never let fans of the world’s most famous mouse down.

This kind of result isn’t magic. It’s just the way that things go with FR3 natural ester fluid.

1.Tests used standard ASTM and IEC test methods defined in the standards for new natural ester fluids. The used FR3 fluid passed all EIII PC57.147/D4.4 Guide Values for Acceptance and Maintenance of Natural Ester Insulating Liquid in Transformers and all IEC 62770 specifications for new natural ester fluids. Test results fell within the ASTM D6871 specification for new natural ester fluid, except for dissipation at 25°C.
