The Jojoba Promise™

The Cargill Jojoba Promise™ is our sustainable sourcing program for Jojoba, with the purpose to improve the sustainability of Jojoba cultivation at global scale through our activities for the personal care industry. To build the Jojoba Promise™, Cargill has partnered with Greenflex to perform a risk analysis of the Jojoba supply chain, interview jojoba suppliers and study the expectations of consumers and personal care manufacturers.
 

The Jojoba promise™ focuses on 3 areas:
 

Resilient Farmers and Communities

At Cargill Beauty we believe in long-term relationships where the entire value chain benefits from our activities. That’s why it’s so important to ensure resiliency for our farmers and their communities. The measures and activities we have installed include:

- Fair, safe and decent working conditions with fair incomes and access to healthcare for all. Furthermore we do not accept any forced labor or child labor in our supply chains and strive towards gender equality.

- Secondly: automatization of the harvest, by supporting our partners with the purchase of equipment and machinery. Harvest automatization reduces the need for manual labor in challenging conditions and helps to increase yields.

- And third: since all involved in the value chain benefit from a successful harvest, we support farmers with training on good agricultural practices. A great example is the composting project that enables the conversion of desert land thanks to the composting of organic jojoba waste.
 

Sustainable Water Use

The second pillar of the jojoba promise™ focuses on sustainable water use. Jojoba is a shrub that thrives in the desert and can grow on land that is typically unsuitable for other crops. The fact that the plant requires very little water is a great asset in itself, but the desert environment can be harsh and water is a precious good. That’s why we try to improve water access and be as mindful as possible when using water for cultivation. 100% of our suppliers use drip irrigation in their jojoba fields and we support initiatives for the valorization of reclaimed water.
 

Traceability

Last but not least, traceability is one of the cornerstones of the Jojoba promise™. Our mission is to deliver high-quality, safe and traceable jojoba derivatives to the personal care industry. That’s why we work with Fair For Life-certified farms, that can offer traceability from field to factory.
