Polyols
Cargill is one of the world’s leading producers of a wide range of polyols, naturally occurring sweeteners obtained through the hydrogenation of sugars. Different polyols can be obtained by selecting specific sugar compositions, such as sorbitol, maltitol, mannitol, erythritol and isomalt, for a variety of applications across the different personal care markets.

Erythritol
- Is a humectant
- can be part of the humectant system of various oral care products

- Provides a sweet and intense cooling taste in oral care products, chewing gums and breath fresheners
- Has a synergistic effect on the perceived sweetness when used in combination with intense sweeteners
- Effectively masks different bitter and astringent tastes

Numerous in-vitro and in-vivo tests demonstrate the non-cariogenic and potential cariostatic properties of erythritol
Isomalt
- Is non-hygroscopic
- Can withstand extreme humid conditions, without absorbing any water, therefore reducing stickiness
- Is tooth-friendlyand non-cariogenic
Maltitol
- Is a flavor enhancer
- Is used in chewing gums for its sweet taste
- Influences texture of chewing gum
- When added to the mass of chewing gum, it improves flexibility and plasticity. When used in the coating of chewing gums, it adds crunchiness
- Is tooth friendly and non-cariogenic
Mannitol
- Is non-hygroscopic
- Can withstand extreme humid conditions, without absorbing any water, therefore reducing stickiness
- Is tooth-friendly and non-cariogenic
Sorbitol
Both sorbitol syrup products have a dry substance of 70 percent. Concentrated solutions of sorbitol have a tendency to crystallize at room temperature, therefore we offer non-crystallizing sorbitol syrups enhanced with crystallization-inhibiting polyols, easier to handle in transit.
- Sorbitol is a humectant
- Is an essential part of the humectant system in oil-in-water emulsions and oral care products
- Is a flavor enhancer
- Provides a sweet taste and a cooling effect in oral care products, chewing gums and breath fresheners. It can also be used as a sugar substitute
