Biotechnology Development Center 

The Cargill Biotechnology Development Center, co-located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Eddyville, Iowa, United States, and Vilvoorde, Belgium, includes more than 60 scientists, engineers and other specialists with expertise across a range of biotechnology disciplines. Cargill. The center features an array of advanced equipment to support the work of our scientists in the areas of molecular biology, chemistry, enzymology, fermentation and production plant design and optimization.

Applying their expertise in advanced enzyme and microbial biotechnology, experts at the center can help you develop new natural products and improved processes for food, feed, biofuels and bio-based material production.

Broad and deep biotechnology expertise

We apply our biotechnology expertise to serve customers across many industries:

  • Feed ingredients: enzymes, vitamins, amino acids and prebiotics and probiotics.
  • Food and ingredients: organic acids, natural polyols, specialty sweeteners, vitamins, pro- and prebiotics, flavors, colorants, nutraceuticals, texturizers, antioxidants and alcohol.
  • Industrial chemical: Use of renewable resources for future revenue, chemical intermediates using environmentally friendly processes and ethanol from cellulosics as well as conventional sugar streams.
  • Plant support: plant design, fundamental study of existing processes, process optimization, operator training and plant startup assistance.
