Sustainability
You can’t be in business for over 150 years without a dedication to sustainability. We’ve made it our mission at Cargill to nourish the world in a safe, responsible and sustainable way.
We team up with diverse partners to solve some of the most significant challenges in food and agriculture. We’re making the future of protein more sustainable by addressing issues that are important across the value chain.
We focus on areas where we believe our size and market presence can help make significant impact: land use, climate change, water resources and farmer livelihoods.
We are making progress on our key priorities including:
Sustainable Beef
We’re committed to sustainable practices across our beef supply chain. We work to protect animal welfare, reduce environmental impact, increase transparency and keep people safe–including the workers who interact with cattle and consumers who eat our beef products.
Sustainable Poultry
When it comes to nutritious protein, we know poultry products are at the top of your list. We are one of the foremost producers of a range of turkey and egg products.
We protect animal welfare, reduce use of growth-promoting antibiotics in turkey, reduce environmental impact and increase transparency. And we work to keep people safe—both the workers who handle poultry and eggs, and the consumers who eat our products.

Animal Welfare
As we deliver protein to the tables of the world, we understand and embrace our responsibility to ensure animals are treated with respect and dignity.
We work with leading animal welfare experts like Dr. Temple Grandin to pioneer new techniques for handling animals humanely and protecting their well-being. We aim to ensure that the animals in our care are raised in an environment that satisfies their physical, emotional and nutritional health requirements at the highest standard.
We’re continuously reviewing, and improving, our animal welfare programs and work to ensure our suppliers meet our high standards.
Our Stories
Cargill is teaming up with The Nature Conservancy and Nestlé Purina to improve water sustainability in the beef supply chain. More than 50 percent of water used in U.S. beef production is dedicated to irrigating the row crops that become feed for cattle. By putting first-of-its-kind, cost-effective irrigation technology in the hands of farmers, the amount of water needed for row crop irrigation is greatly reduced, as is the environmental impact of the beef supply chain.
