Project Lead the Way
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a non-profit organization focused on bringing science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM)education to grades 6 to12. Its mission is to increase the quality, quantity and diversity of the future engineering, technical and scientific workforce. Today, more than 4,000 schools are participating in PLTW programs and more than half a million students in the United States have taken at least one PLTW course.
Cargill has committed $2.1 million to PLTW to support its curriculum across the U.S. Currently Cargill supports the program in 15 schools in five states. By the end of 2013, the goal is to extend the program to 57 schools, which will offer one or both of the following curriculums:
- Gateway to Technology© is PLTW’s middle school program with an engineering-focused curriculum. This activity-oriented curriculum is geared toward challenging and engaging middle school students in STEM education.
- Pathway to Engineering© is PLTW’s four-year high school program taught in conjunction with college preparatory mathematics and science courses. Eight courses give high school students hands-on knowledge of engineering concepts, design and problem-solving.
