EverSweet™ No-calorie Stevia Sweetener is Delicious — and Safe
The safety of our foods is our highest priority
Food safety is essential to you and Cargill’s commitment is to provide high quality, safe food every time, everywhere.
Cargill is committed to safeguarding the wholesomeness and integrity of the food we produce. In a global food system where food comes from many sources and can travel great distances, food safety becomes even more important and complicated. Because we touch the global food supply in so many ways and in so many places, we apply a broad, comprehensive, science- and risk-based approach to ensure the safety and integrity of our products no matter where we are in the world.
Our goal is to provide high-quality, safe food every time, everywhere.
Our EverSweet stevia sweetener has met the safety standards of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has obtained a letter of no objection from the FDA before selling our sweetener commercially. Since 2008, the FDA has reviewed more than 34+ notifications for other steviol glycosides and found no objections, making it one of the most thoroughly evaluated food ingredients in recent FDA history.
Further, the great-tasting steviol glycosides found in our EverSweet™ stevia sweetener are identical to those found naturally in stevia plant leaves, which have been safely consumed for hundreds of years.

More Food Safety
Extensive clinical and non-clinical safety studies have been conducted on steviol glycosides. Additionally, various international regulatory bodies have also approved the use of stevia leaf extract and many individual steviol glycosides as a general purpose sweetener.
Safety Studies Supporting Steviol Glycosides (Clinical and Non-clinical)
STUDY CONDUCTED: How stevia leaf extract effects blood glucose levels in people with diabetes:
Results: Purified stevia does not have any immediate effects on blood sugar (glucose) or insulin in people with diabetes in doses as high as 1000 mg. There was no difference in side effects reported by those consuming stevia leaf extract as compared to those consuming the placebo. This study was conducted with stevia leaf extract and was presented to the public at a scientific meeting in April 2009.
STUDY CONDUCTED: How stevia leaf extract effects people with Type 2 diabetes
Results: Chronic consumption of purified stevia leaf extract had no effects on blood sugar (glucose), insulin, hemoglobin A1c, blood lipids such as cholesterol and triglycerides in a subjects with type 2 diabetes in a randomized, masked study. This study followed 122 subjects consuming 1000 mg of stevia leaf extract or placebo every day for 4 months. There were no differences in side effects reported by those consuming stevia leaf extract as compared to those consuming the placebo.
STUDY CONDUCTED: How stevia leaf extract effects non-diabetic adults
Results: Chronic consumption of purified stevia leaf extract had no effect on blood pressure and any other health indices in healthy adults. This study followed 100 healthy adults consuming 1000 mg of stevia leaf extract or placebo every day for 4 weeks. There was no difference in side effects reported by those consuming stevia leaf extract as compared to those consuming the placebo.
