FermaBoost®
Corn-based nutrients for optimal fermentation processes
Sugars derived from grains, sugar beet and sugar cane are the main feedstock for fermentation processes. However, for optimal fermentation, the medium not only requires carbohydrates as an energy source, but also nutritional building blocks to enhance the growth of micro-organisms.
Enter FermaBoost® - corn based nutrients for fermentation processes – that contains all the nutrients needed for optimal fermentation processes. It provides proteins, peptides, amino acids and essential growth factors (vitamins, trace minerals…) to micro-organisms to boost fermentation. Moreover, it contains easily bio-available organic nitrogen in the form of free amino acids (at least one third of total protein content).
Benefits
- Essential nutrient: valued for its nitrogen and critical growth-factor content. The various micro-nutrients obtained from the corn are essential for the growth and development of micro-organisms
- Stable operations, transport and storage: Consistent composition supports stable operation during fermentation. Low residual sugars level ensures product stability during transport and storage.
- Consistent quality: Mild processing conditions avoid the formation of compounds that can hinder microbial growth during fermentation. Stabilization of the corn steep liquor helps to improve its quality and shelf life.
- Cost-effective: Partial replacement of a proportion of the liquid yeast extract by FermaBoost® can provide cost savings as high as 60%.
Processing
FermaBoost® has proven improved and more consistent fermentation performance vs non-stabilized CSL*, and similar fermentation performance vs the market reference for corn-based nutrients.
To ensure consistent, stable quality of FermaBoost® , Cargill uses a stabilization process of the corn steep liquor to help improve quality and shelf life.
*Non-stabilized CSL is less stable at storage due to its high content of residual sugars and of more variable quality because of the absence of a special smoothing process to make it of stable and reproducible composition.
Applications
Suitable for the production of enzymes, amino acids, antibiotics, organic acids, hydrocolloids… and applicable in fermentation processes for a wide range of markets:
