Service and Equipment Solutions
High requirements in terms of both efficiency of the corrugator and quality of the corrugated board need to be satisfied during production. That's why our product solutions need to be combined with technical support, lab tests and equipment consultancy to ensure successful results. Starch solutions can perform at best only when the most suitable product is selected for the relevant corrugator set-up and working parameters and when the correct steps are taken in the glue formulation and application, at the correct temperature and moisture conditions.
Technical support
Our experienced technical team will support customers in the selection of the best starch solutions that are based on the performance targets, cost to treat requirements, sustainability objectives, and plant capabilities.
When introducing a new solution, a plant audit at the corrugator (conducted by our technical experts), is the first step to ensure that all relevant details are collected (for the glue: info on viscosity, solids, gelatinization temperature; for the system: measurements, dosage pumps, metering systems, weighing systems, starch feeders, additive usage, etc.), samples for lab tests are taken, and targets are defined. When all the parameters and lab results are available, the most suitable product solution is identified together with the glue formulation process and recipe. A short production trial from 25kg bags is then set up to demonstrate gluing performances. If successful, a longer production trial from silo takes place. Cargill experts will assist our customers during the trials by advising on glue recipe, corrugator settings, and board evaluation. Once the solution has been implemented, Cargill experts will continue to provide support with trouble-shooting and technical requests, in order to optimization glue recipe and corrugator settings.
Lab support
Since 1966, our lab in Krefeld has been performing testing to support our innovation pipeline and customers in the paper & board industry. Our specialized corrugated lab is focusing on powder starch evaluation viscosity (RVA & Brabender) and on the preparation, evaluation and fine-tuning of corrugating glue adhesive recipes. We also have microscopic and physical paper testing capabilities to evaluate board and starch powder. We can also assess paper physical qualities such as printing, optical, and strength properties.
Equipment consultancy
In order to fully and safely exploit the benefits of starch, proper equipment and use conditions are required. From starch storage, to transfer & handling. to glue formulation, we can advise on what is the most suitable equipment and set up for your specific needs.
An example of our dedication to the corrugated industry and experience in equipment is Coromat™ iFlex glue kitchen. This system was developed by Cargill and functions as a compact, fully automated corrugating adhesive preparation system. Technologically advanced, flexible and adaptable, Coromat™ iFlex provides a highly efficient viscosity controlled glue kitchen process, which can deliver faster speeds, less glue consumption, a reduction in waste, and improved wet resistance. No matter what type of glue preparation method or starch products you use, Coromat™ iFlex preparation system will help to keep you one step ahead. Cargill has partnered with external third party in Europe on handling the installation, set up and post-sales support for Coromat™ iFlex glue kitchen.
