These can be applied in hot melt, (liquid) reactive, epoxy, water based and solvent based adhesives.
Structural Adhesives
High performance ingredients
Our range of high-performance ingredients provides durability opportunities and improved adhesion to a wide variety of substrates such as plastics, aluminum and composites used in structural adhesives applications. This allows manufacturers to currently replace materials with adhesives for long lasting benefits like:
- Low temperature flexibility and high temperature resistance; due to low Tg and high flexibility in combination with intrinsic resistance against heat aging
- Durability: a unique combination of thermo-oxidative and hydrolysis resistance
- Moisture repellency of the final adhesive, also achieved for PU dispersions
- Adhesion to a wide range of substrates, including low-polarity plastics
- Good chemical resistance
Electronics
Specialized bio-based building blocks
In displays and flexible electronics, polymer modification of materials with our specialized bio-based building blocks enables:
- Enhanced protection against moisture
- Flexibility, even in low-temperature environments
- Improved adhesion for different substrates and production techniques
- Better impact strength and lasting flexibility
- Superior resistance to heat and oxidation
Automotive
High-performance automotive solutions
Our range of high-performance ingredients provides light-weight design opportunities and improved adhesion to a wide variety of substrates such as plastics, aluminum and composites used in automotive and transport applications. This allows manufacturers to replace welding or mechanical fastening with adhesives that offer benefits like:
- Low temperature flexibility and high-temperature resistance; due to low Tg and high flexibility in combination with intrinsic resistance against heat aging
- Good barrier protection for electronic potting; the dimer fatty acid nature is hydrophobic by nature
- Noise and vibration reduction for relaxed driving; external vibration can be absorbed by the products
- Water resistance and durability for PU sealants; a result of the hydrophobic properties of the raw materials
Wood
Efficiency and performance
Across markets and geographies, customers and regulations are dictating the need for environmentally friendly ingredients that are better for people and the planet. The adhesive and binders market is no exception.
Cargill's deep expertise in agriculture-based chemistry has led to our BiOH Fusion® adhesive innovations that draw on natural sources for bonding strength, versatility, and staying power. Cargill develops bio-based adhesive ingredients for applications in wood, furniture, and flooring.
These ingredients deliver performance and profits through more sustainable science. Since 2018, Cargill oversees the Scientific Coordination of the European SUSBIND project, focused on creating bio-based binders.
