Additives
Additives are an important component of coatings formulating. Additives can enhance specific paint application properties, such as flow, dry time, and workability. They can also improve final film properties, such as hardness, uniformity, porosity and substrate adhesion.
Cargill's broad portfolio of coatings chemistries include various additives to enhance paint application properties. Our products include Cargill™ Oxi-Cure™ coalescing agents, Lecithin emulsifiers, Cargill™ Vikoflex™ plasticizers and more.

Coalescing agents
Coalescing agents permit better mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, film impermeability, film appearance, and resistance to chemicals by softening latex particles to create a more uniform, continuous film. Unlike petroleum-based products, Cargill's coalescing agents are made from renewable bio-based resources and can achieve these performance advantages without contributing VOCs* to the formulation.
*based on ASTM Method D6886
Oxi-CureTM 3000
A low VOC*, low odor, bio-based coalescing agent that can help improve coating durability, such as a stain, scrub and block resistance.
*based on ASTM Method D6886
Oxi-CureTM 2200
A clear, zero VOC* coalescing agent that promotes film formation and gloss development across a wide range of ambient conditions.
*based on ASTM Method D6886
Emulsifiers/wetting agents
Emulsifiers help keep the pigment dispersed evenly throughout the mixture for a more uniform product. Used within the paint industry for decades, lecithin is a bio-based and trusted material that provides high performance and sustainability advantages, such as increased renewable content, compared to using petroleum-based products.
Plasticizers
Plasticizers make the coating film more flexible, helping to improve toughness and flexibility to minimize film cracking. Cargill's plasticizers help to achieve performance targets without contributing VOCs* or odors.
Reactive diluents
Cargill's bio-based reactive diluents help modify viscosity to improve application and contribute to crosslinking to enhance performance properties of coatings while also contributing renewable content to the formulation.
Oxi-Cure™ 100
Rapid drying, bio-based ester that can help increase crosslinking while improving flow and leveling properties of coatings.
Dilulin
DCPD modified linseed oil providing enhanced durability with fast drying properties and crosslinking efficiency.
