Linseed oils

Linseed oil is a versatile drying oil used in paints and coatings for its film forming and fast drying capabilities. It can also be used as a binder and for surface coatings in hardboard manufacturing. Dryers and other compounds are often added to impart specific functionality.

Heat bodied and blown linseed oils

Modified linseed oils are produced by thermally polymerizing to produce “heat bodied” oils or by oxidation to create “blown” oils. These are produced under our exacting conditions to create oils with increased viscosity and functionality.

Our linseed oil is obtained from flaxseed grown in the Red River Valley of the United States and Canada. The seed contains approximately 35% oil which is removed by a solvent extraction process. Crude linseed oil is made into a product called ASTM Raw by mechanical degumming and filtering. Refined linseed oil is produced by alkali refining, bleaching, chilling and filtering (dewaxing) the crude linseed oil.
