Priolube™ EF
Synthetic ester base oils for electric vehicles
Cargill's Priolube EF range of high performance, low viscosity ester base oils exhibit excellent thermal and dielectric properties and are suitable for formulating low traction, high-efficiency fluids for EV transmissions and immersion cooling fluids for battery cooling systems.
Recognizing the need for dedicated ingredients, our Priolube EF range of innovative, patented chemistries was established to meet the evolving landscape of mobility - transitioning from internal combustion engines (ICEs) to battery electric vehicles (EVs).

EV-specific ester base oils overcome challenges in e-mobility
PriolubeTM EF fluids can be formulated with Group III, Group IV and Group V base oils to tune material compatibility and performance. We have over 40 years of lubricant formulation expertise and can support your technical development work. Contact us today to speak to a technical expert.
Viscosity
Viscosity
In transmissions, thinner, low viscosity lubricants reduce churning losses, improving efficiency but low viscosity base oils can have poor film forming and load carrying capabilities, increasing the risk of wear. Priolube EFTM ester base oils offer low viscosity but also low wear in formulated lubricants, reducing risk of damage to the transmission.
In immersion cooling, low viscosity is an absolute requirement to reduce pumping losses as much as possible. Priolube EF synthetic ester base oils have viscosities as low as 6.1 centistokes at 40°C. Please contact us to discuss your specific viscosity needs.
Material compatibility
Material compatibility and no harms
Priolube EF synthetic ester base oils are compatible with motor winding insulation materials, many common elastomers and copper, making them versatile base oils for your electric vehicle application.
They also have low evaporative loss (as low as 2% at 200°C in the NOACK test) and pass the ASTM D6082 foaming test.
Environmental profile
Environmental profile
With ever more environmental scrutiny, manufacturers are seeking products that are biodegradable and with high biobased carbon content. Priolube EF synthetic esters have biobased content as high as 87% and all products are classed as biodegradable. There are no halogenated materials intentionally added to Priolube EF products.
